The Romanian Gendarmerie, through its specialized structures, has the following attributions:

• To protect public order and peace, the citizens fundamental rights and freedom, the public and private property
• To prevent and detect crimes and other violations of the law into force
• To counter terrorist actions
• To protect the fundamental institutions of the state
• To accomplish international missions
