The General Inspectorate represents the central unit of the Romanian Gendarmerie, with legal status and general territorial competence that plans, organizes, manages, co-ordinates and supervises the activity of the subordinated structures, ensures the co-operation with other state's institutions, bodies and governmental and non-governmental national and foreign organizations and performs any other attributions stipulated by law.
The General Inspectorate is managed by an inspector general appointed by the minister of interior and administrative reform.
The general inspector of the Romanian Gendarmerie is supported by the first deputy and head of the general staff and deputies appointed in positions, at his proposal, by the minister of administration and interior, in fulfilling his tasks.
